              <p>2025 has been an incredible year for Predecessor, packed full of major updates and new content for everyone to enjoy. But we&#39;ve heard the feedback loud and clear - a focus on bugs, stability and quality of life would be great for everyone.</p><p>The idea of an update dedicated to health &amp; stability has been floating around the community for a little while now, it&#39;s clear you want us to squash some bugs, and we do too.</p><h2 id="the-details" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">The Details</h2><p>Update 1.11 will focus primarily on:</p><ul><li><p>Stability (crashes and server hiccups)</p></li><li><p>Bugs that negatively impact the experience</p></li><li><p>Quality of life changes</p></li></ul><p>This doesn&#39;t mean there won&#39;t be more exciting content in the patch though! You can expect a new Hero, that you may find fits in pretty well with the whole &quot;health&quot; theme... alongside new skins, balance updates and more.</p><h2 id="have-your-say" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">Have Your Say</h2><p>This is where you come in! We have a list of issues we know we&#39;d like to address, but we also want to make sure we’re tackling the things that matter most to you.</p><p>We&#39;ve created a dedicated <a href="https://playp.red/4qBN9Ey" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Discord forum</a> where everyone can submit the issues they feel has a negative impact on their experience. It could be a UI bug, an ability behaving strangely, some unexpected visual oddities, and more - we want to know.</p><p>You’ll also be able to react to other players’ posts with an upvote or downvote to help us see which issues matter most to the community.</p><p><a href="https://playp.red/4qBN9Ey" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Join the discussion on Discord</a></p><h2 id="release-date" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">Release Date</h2><p>The holiday season is fast approaching and we want to give our team the time they deserve to take a break and enjoy the festivities.         </div><p>Hello, Champions!</p><p>By the end of this year, we’ll have shipped 8 incredible heroes and a ton of new features and improvements. We’re really proud of this but we still have a long way to go in terms of realising the vision we have for Predecessor. We’ve heard your feedback: you want to know about the direction and future for the game, so let&#39;s jump right in.</p><h2 id="direction" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24"><b>Direction</b></h2><p>Firstly, we want to say that we see our core mission as building the next generation home for MOBA players on PC and Console. Notice the “MOBA” part of that statement - we’re not looking to build a hero shooter or a brawler, we love and play MOBAs all the time, and truly believe they offer something special that no other genre can match. </p><p>We’ve been hard at work experimenting with Nitro, which we see as key to both onboarding newer players and offering a deep MOBA experience for those with less time. While we have more iterations planned for Nitro, we have heard the feedback that Standard and Ranked modes have also been moving too far in the same direction, and we agree, and want to address that shift.</p><p>Starting in 1.9, we’re implementing balance changes to Standard and Ranked that will address a lot of the feedback that we’ve seen. </p><p>Our high level goals are:</p><ul><li><p><b>Address Game Balance and Feel</b>: To slow down how chaotic and “brawly” games of Standard or Ranked can feel, with more emphasis on tactics, good macro strategy, farming, and outplay potential.</p></li><li><p><b>Reward Skill &amp; Mastery</b>: Players that have invested time into their mechanical skill and game knowledge should be rewarded through greater success.</p></li><li><p><b>Improve Laning Impact</b>: Choices during the laning phase should have more weight and allow for different trade-offs and strategic decisions.                                                               <br/></p></li></ul><p>Now that we’ve outlined the higher level goals, here are some specific problems we’re looking to address, and some information on how we are going to do that, starting in 1.9. </p><h2 id="game-pace" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24"><b>Game Pace</b></h2><p>For starters, there have been several discussions among the community which raise concerns of the pace of the match, and that Predecessor might be losing some of the tactical MOBA magic that draws many of us to the game. For many, this largely stems from any given match of Predecessor feeling too fast and brawly, with too much emphasis on kills and objectives rather than individual plays, laning and the ability to outhink your opponents.</p><p>As a result, we’re slowing down the pace of the match: </p><ul><li><p>We’re decreasing the base movement speed of Heroes slightly to limit how quickly any given Hero can rotate around the map. </p></li><li><p>We are putting more emphasis on Minions &amp; Jungle Camps as a source of gold, meaning farming is becoming more important and players that ignore their lanes will risk falling behind if they roam around and deathball for too long. </p></li><li><p>Finally, we’re increasing the time it takes for large objectives such as Shaper and Fangtooth to respawn (and reducing the global rewards for killing them), meaning there will be more moments of downtime between objectives that will allow players the chance to play out their lane for longer portions of a match and engage in larger macro-strategy, rather than feeling pulled to large objective fights as frequently.</p></li></ul><h2 id="laning-interactions-and-player-agency" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24"><b>Laning Interactions and Player Agency</b></h2><p>Many players feel that successfully farming minions and gaining Creep Score (CS) leads isn&#39;t rewarding enough. This stems largely from the high amount of gold granted for unsuccessfully last-hitting a minion, combined with relatively high global and passive gold sources. These factors often lead the laning phase to devolve into a &quot;shove-fest,&quot; where tactical play, poke, and edging out CS advantages are overshadowed by shove-and-roam heavy gameplay, as the ability to punish and kill an opponent for mistakes is currently quite low. We aim to improve the laning phase, making it more engaging, more tactical, and more punishing for mistakes. </p><p>We&#39;ll do this by increasing the emphasis on last-hits and their value, making tower plates last longer, increasing the ability to kill your opponent in the lane, and giving minions a durability boost. Ultimately, this will demand more careful thought about lane approach, better define the choice between using abilities for trades versus shoving, make CS leads matter more, make roaming less effective, and increase the opportunities and punishment for mistakes for each laner to capitalise on.</p><p><b>Tower Damage</b></p><p>We’ve received a lot of feedback that towers do not pack enough of a punch, with tower dives feeling too easy to pull off. While we don’t want to prevent tower diving altogether (as it is a necessary strategy that rewards proactive play), we agree that it is currently too easy to pull off prolonged dives.</p><p>To help resolve this, we’ve increased the strength of towers throughout the match, while also increasing the number of times a tower’s damage can ramp up with each shot from three to four. The combination of these two changes means that players will feel less vulnerable when playing underneath their towers, and better able to outplay and counter-kill divers that fail to execute their dive decisively enough and outstay their welcome.</p><h2 id="crowd-control" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24"><b>Crowd Control</b></h2><p>The efficacy and duration of Crowd Control (CC) is a frequent point of debate for players. It’s an important part of the MOBA experience, but we understand the frustration that can come with CC-heavy gameplay, as the inability to react paired with high incoming burst damage can often lead to certain scenarios and deaths feeling less fair than they should.</p><p>We believe there is space to trim out some of the excess present in Predecessor and make combat feel a little more freeflowing. As a result, various CC abilities across the game are receiving roughly a 10-20% reduction to their duration or potency. </p><h2 id="movement-skill-expression-and-positioning" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24"><b>Movement, Skill Expression, and Positioning</b></h2><p>Another problem that can surface at times is the limited potential for players to outplay their opponents in a fight. This can manifest in various ways - from being run down the entire lane by a carry basic attacking you to death, to the inability to predict and juke incoming attacks - ultimately leads to more frequent “stat-check” scenarios where players have no opportunity to outplay their opponent to overcome a deficit.</p><p>While this is a difficult problem to resolve entirely, for now, not only are we slowing down the speed of various projectile and explosion-based abilities, we are also increasing the fluidity of baseline movement through increased acceleration and braking when looking to pivot or change directions. In more simple terms, the combination of these changes means that various abilities will be easier to dodge through movement, and that players will have to put themselves closer to the action if they wish to more reliably hit their opponents now that these abilities require more precision.</p><p>In combination with the above, we are also increasing the strength of the combat penalty for basic attacking, resulting in players moving slightly slower when committing to a basic attacks. While this may feel a little sluggish at first, this change elevates the positional strategy of combat engagements quite significantly, not only making ranged Heroes easier to escape from or collapse onto and reducing the frequency of run-down scenarios in lane, but it also brings with it a deeper layer of positional considerations thanks to the larger tradeoff between laying down fire and the reduced movement speed that comes with it, or choosing to slow down your damage output to reposition at a better angle. </p><p>We believe these changes will also help address how ranged heroes can feel so oppressive in offlane, which is another large point of feedback from players over recent weeks.</p><h2 id="summary" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24"><b>Summary</b></h2><ul><li><p>The average match will feel slower in pace and more methodical.</p></li><li><p>Minion last-hits and playing the map will be more important.</p></li><li><p>The laning phase will last longer and matter more.</p></li><li><p>Excessive roaming will come with greater economic tradeoffs.</p></li><li><p>Towers will deal more damage.</p></li><li><p>CC will be less powerful.</p></li><li><p>Various abilities will be easier to dodge/harder to land.</p></li><li><p>Basic attacks will have a greater movement tradeoff.</p></li><li><p>Skill expression and individual agency increased.</p></li><li><p>Ranged heroes in offlane should feel less oppressive</p></li></ul><p>While there are more balance considerations in v1.9 that we haven’t discussed here, overall, we expect gameplay to feel more methodical and tactical once the update drops. </p><p>If you’d like more information, please tune into our Tempest of Shadows live stream on the 8th October, or check out the full patch notes releasing on 10th October. </p><p><b><i>Please keep your feedback coming, we appreciate and read everything you send our way. </i></b></p><p>Thank you so much for playing, and see you in game!</p><p>Omeda Studios</p><p><br/></p>

              <p>This one might be the least surprising reveal - if you’ve been following our social channels and watched our streams you’ve probably seen us hinting at it for a while! ARAM is a fan-favorite across MOBAs, and we knew we had to take our own swing at it - and it’s coming in V1.9!<br/><br/>For those unfamiliar, ARAM stands for “All Random, All Mid.” In this mode, every player is assigned a random Hero (don&#39;t worry, you can reroll) and battles it out on a single lane - expect nonstop action, constant team fights, and plenty of chaos!</p><p>It’s the perfect treat for players who love the combat side of Predecessor.</p><p>It was also one of the most popular suggestions back when we asked what kind of game modes you’d like to see in Predecessor. It’s been a long time coming, but now it’s just around the corner!</p><p>Of course, words can only do so much.               <p>We’re excited to announce that we&#39;ve acquired the rights to several assets from the fellow Paragon remake, Paragon: The Overprime, including some community favourites!</p><p>These designs, secured from Netmarble, are being carefully adapted for Predecessor as we speak. Bringing them over is no small task - models, textures, engine setup, and system requirements all need some adjustments to work within our game - but we’re committed to making a bunch of them available.</p><p>The first Overprime skin arrives in V1.9: Franken Steel!</p><p>And this is just the beginning, more will roll out over time as we finish converting them and fitting them into our collections and structures. While today’s reveal is for V1.9, this is a journey that will continue well beyond!               <p>Starting in V1.9, you’ll be able to complete any Battle Pass at any time - and even switch between them!</p><p>Missed the Winterfest 2024 pass because you weren’t playing Predecessor back then? Ran out of time to finish the Shadow Ops pass and still think about that Serath skin? Good news: not only will you be able to finish previous passes you couldn’t complete for any reason, but you’ll also be able to purchase ones you missed entirely and complete them at your own pace - with no looming deadlines.</p><p>We’ve listened to the community’s thoughts on Battle Passes: the wish to revisit older content, to complete passes at your own pace, and the desire for more flexibility. So we set out to make it happen.</p><p>This feature exists because of you - the community - shaped by your requests and brought to life through your feedback.<br/><br/>The Shadow Ops and Winterfest 2024 Battle Passes will be available for purchase again in V1.9, with Ashes of the Damned returning in V1.10.</p><p>If you’ve already purchased these passes but didn’t finish them, you’ll regain access on October 14th.<br/><br/>Expect to hear more on that in V1.9 Dev Livestream, live on October 8th!</p><p><br/> <br/> </p>

7 Days of Reveals

<p>Since we introduced LABS back in v1.6, it’s been incredible to see how many of you have jumped into some of the more experimental game modes we’ve been exploring. Over 1.5 million players have tried out a LABS game so far and the mode’s popularity is holding strong, all without negatively affecting Standard or Ranked queues. That’s a big win and we couldn’t be happier, which is why we’re putting in the work to evolve LABS over the next few months.</p><h2 id="labs-so-far" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">LABS So Far</h2><p>So far in LABS, we’ve launched two new game modes: Nitro and Legacy. Nitro has, of course, been around for a little longer, but even with that in mind, there’s a large difference in how often each mode is being played, especially when looking at the proportion of games played compared to other available modes. </p>

              <p>In this graph we can see Legacy, the green line, has dropped off at a much sharper rate than any of our previous modes. Simply put, players dove head first into the game mode, but didn’t necessarily enjoy it enough to play more often as time went on. Nitro in orange on the other hand has remained very strong, consistently seeing players replay the mode. We’ve also included Brawl because, like Legacy, we also see that players who tried the game mode slowly dropped off of it, with the slope continuing on a downward trend much lower than we see here.</p><h2 id="what-have-we-learned-from-legacy" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">What Have We Learned From Legacy?</h2><p>Legacy gave us a great chance to experiment with the look and feel of a more traditional MOBA map, and we’ve taken some valuable lessons from it that we’ll be looking to carry forward into the future. </p><p>One of the biggest standouts was the sheer verticality Agora brought to the table - having more elevation changes across the map made traversal and positioning feel significantly more dynamic. The larger overall playspace also allowed for more varied teamfights and rotations, which we’ll be exploring further in future map designs.</p><p>On the visual side, Legacy helped reinforce just how much of a difference atmosphere and scenery can make. The lighting, foliage, and general mood of the map created a far more vibrant and immersive experience, and that’s something we’re keen to carry forward too.</p>

              <p>Above all else though we’ve learned from v1.7 that with our current player pool, running four different game queues at once has spread things a little too thin. It’s put extra pressure on matchmaking times and has impacted player experience across the board. So for the rest of the year, we’ll be limiting LABS to just one mode at a time. </p><p>With all of this said (and taking the popularity levels of the two modes into consideration), we’ve made the decision to retire the Legacy game mode in v1.7.3, on August 12th. </p><h2 id="what-about-nitro" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">What about Nitro?</h2><p>As discussed already, Nitro is still going strong - clearly resonating with a lot of players, but there’s so much more we want to do to get the gameplay rhythm we’re looking for. Right now, the average and the maximum game times are still too close to Standard, which isn’t the goal for the game mode. </p>

              <p>In the graph above you can see that we’ve been able to bring down the average game time in Nitro with some careful adjustments over the past few months, but there’s still a long way to go until we hit our target of 15 minute average game times. </p><p>To help deliver on this mission we’re planning some further tweaks to the mode in v1.8, before we take it offline completely in v1.9 to make some larger scale changes.</p><p>We expect to return with a new and improved Nitro mode to LABS in our v1.10 update, currently slated to release in late November.</p><h2 id="what-about-v19" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">What about v1.9?</h2><p>Looking ahead to v1.9, the current plan is to introduce a brand new game mode to LABS - something a little different from what we’ve done before.</p><p>We’re hoping to release an early version and our own interpretation of the highly requested ARAM (All Random, All Mid) format, a single-lane, 5v5 mode. It’s fast-paced, chaotic, and built for nonstop action, a true brawler-style mode for those who want a little something different from the MOBA mechanics of Standard or Nitro. </p><p>We believe ARAM can fill a similar role to Brawl as a more casual mode, whilst providing a better pathway to playing Nitro, Standard and Ranked. </p><p>This new mode is still very much in early development and as with all upcoming features it is subject to change as we continue to test and iterate internally. We’re currently building out the map for the game mode and extensive playtests have begun to make sure we’re happy with everything before release. We’ll have more to share in the coming weeks once we’re confident in the direction it’s heading. </p><p>The beauty of our LABS system is the flexibility it offers. Predecessor: LABS Update

<p>Following on from our announcement last year, we’ll soon be sunsetting the PlayStation 4 version of Predecessor.</p><p>Predecessor has been unlisted on the PlayStation 4 store for some time now, but still playable for anyone who had already downloaded the game. Starting next week however we’ll be discontinuing support completely, meaning even those with the game downloaded and installed will be unable to play going forwards.</p><p>While it will no longer be possible to play on PS4 after this point, game data tied to a PlayStation 4 account will be preserved, meaning you can recover your account data anytime, even after the sunset date.</p><p>The exact date when we&#39;ll be discontinuing support for PlayStation 4 is January 14th, coinciding with the V1.3 Game Update.</p><h4>Moving from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5</h4><p>Simply log in with the same PlayStation account you used previously on your PlayStation 4 and you’ll be right back in the action on your PlayStation 5, with account progress, purchases etc. all ready and waiting for you.</p><h4>Moving from PlayStation 4 to Xbox, Steam or Epic Games</h4><p>Account migration will be releasing shortly and will allow you to migrate your data from PlayStation 4 to any other platform. <p>Greetings Champions!</p><p>Today’s blog post is all about our upcoming new soft currency, Amber! </p><p>This highly anticipated new addition comes off the back of months of internal testing, community feedback, and our never ending passion to make Predecessor the best it can be.</p><p>So with that in mind, let’s jump right into it!</p><h2 id="why-introduce-a-new-currency" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">Why introduce a new currency?</h2><p>This new currency, called Amber, is being introduced primarily as a means to purchase new Heroes as soon as they come out.</p><p>Under the previous system, player choices were limited due to the inefficiencies suffered when trying to unlock a Hero.</p><p>What do we mean by this? Well imagine you’re close to unlocking a Hero and all of a sudden we introduce a shiny new Hero that catches your eye instead. Switching who you’re unlocking sets you back, forcing you to either abandon your current progress to start working from scratch on a new character, or stick with the decision you made and delay unlocking the new Hero, essentially forcing your hand. All this is to say that it forced players to make tricky decisions.</p><p>There’s more reasons besides this, such as overflow XP being lost instead of being banked for your next unlock, and perhaps most importantly the pressure the system placed on new players who had to make important game decisions with very limited information and no way to delay the decision. Should a new player be prioritising Hero X as their first unlock? By the time they had enough XP to unlock that Hero their perspective of the game and their priorities as a player may very well have shifted.</p><h2 id="how-does-this-affect-hero-acquisition" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">How does this affect Hero Acquisition?</h2><p>Under the previous system, each Hero had a number of stages that needed to be unlocked using experience before they were fully unlocked and available to use. Newer Heroes tended to have more locks and therefore required more XP to unlock, whereas older Heroes had less and could be unlocked quicker. Alternatively you could always bypass this process by using our main currency, Platinum, to purchase a Hero outright.</p><p>With the introduction of Amber, we will be removing this system of unlock stages. Instead, every Hero will have a predetermined cost that you can pay using either Amber or Platinum, a price that’ll vary based on that Hero’s newness or difficulty.</p><p>Let’s take Argus for example who is arriving in the upcoming V0.15 game update. With no way to earn Amber ahead of his release it felt only right that he starts out with a slight discount, meaning he’ll only cost 8,600 Amber on launch. Future Heroes will start at the higher cost shown above.</p><p>Please note that these costs are subject to change!</p><h2 id="what-if-im-already-part-way-through-unlocking-a-new-hero-when-this-change-is-made" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">What if I’m already part-way through unlocking a new Hero when this change is made?</h2><p>If you’re already working on unlocking Heroes using the old system of XP and unlock stages, have no fear! We’ll be converting earned unlock XP into Amber which you can then put towards purchasing any Heroes going forwards.</p><p>Once V0.15 hits, we’ll count up how much Unlock XP you have towards Heroes you haven’t unlocked and convert it into Amber.</p><p>For every 50,000 XP you have towards unlocking Heroes you’ll get 8,600 Amber. Nice!</p><h2 id="how-do-you-acquire-amber" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">How do you acquire Amber?</h2><p>There are two main ways you can earn Amber.</p><h3 id="player-account-level-up" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">Player Account Level Up</h3><p>By increasing your player account level, you’ll also be increasing your stash of Amber!</p><p>Every time you level up you’ll receive a small amount of Amber as a reward. The amount you get will vary slightly based on what level you are.</p><h3 id="playing-pvp-matches" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">Playing PVP Matches</h3><p>By playing Predecessor you’ll passively earn yourself some Amber.</p><p>Every time you complete a match you’ll get a small amount of Amber based on how well it went for you. <p>Greetings Champions!</p><p>With Season 3 coming to a close, we wanted to catch you up a few key details about what you can expect from our upcoming V0.15 update and the end of the current season.</p><h2 id="v015" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">V0.15</h2><h6>The final update of EA Season 3</h6><h3 id="key-features" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">Key Features</h3><p>As we close in on the release of Predecessor&#39;s final update of EA Season 3, we wanted to share some details on what you can expect from us.</p><p>Firstly we&#39;re excited to confirm that V0.15 will launch with our reworked Hero Acquisition model. Following your feedback, a new soft currency is being introduced that will allow you to immediately purchase new Heroes such as Argus with no need to grind out specific XP for them. We&#39;ll delve into this topic more thoroughly in a blog post later in the week, so stay tuned for that.</p><p>There&#39;s more too - we&#39;ve got some improvements to Jungle AI, tweaks for controller users and the usual slew of new skins, items and Hero tweaks!</p><p>Lastly we&#39;re keen to get our new Hero, Argus (previously known by his codename of Emerald), into your hands. The community have been hard at work unlocking various teases for this new Mad Mage of the Midlane and we cannot wait for you to meet him on the battlefield!</p>

<p>Greeting Champions!</p><p>With 2024 thoroughly underway and as we look ahead to the milestones we hope to hit over the coming months, we have new opportunities for Predecessor players to join us in testing out new versions of the game ahead of our upcoming Open Beta!</p><p>You may have already heard of our Internal Testing team, which is a collection of dedicated Predecessor players who take part in early playtests to provide feedback on upcoming characters and features. We’re looking to grow this team, inviting more of our community to step behind the curtain and help us make Predecessor the very best that we know it can be.</p><p>Specifically, we’re looking for up to 1,000 PC players to join us over the coming weeks, playtesting Predecessor on a private development branch and answering some feedback questions on their experience. To be clear, this test will not contain early access to new characters like Emerald or other new features, but instead focuses on the game experience as a whole, as we make stability and optimisation improvements to the entire game.</p><p>If you are selected to take part, you will be invited to join our private Discord server where you will get one-on-one interactions with our development team as they conduct and monitor tests, alongside our excellent Internal Testing team moderators who will assist you at every step.</p><p>Participants will receive a Steam code granting them access to a unique development branch of the game. There will be organised tests each week, taking part on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays during February and March. These tests will take place across both EU and NA regions.</p><p>You will be expected to adhere to strict privacy rules such as not streaming or recording tests, and you may be invited to sign an NDA.</p><p>In return, we’re offering everyone who takes part the opportunity to earn two upcoming skins (a common and a rare) on their live Predecessor game accounts. These will be rewarded based on your participation - with a higher account level at the end of the overall testing period netting you more rewards.</p><p>This is a great opportunity to make a real difference in Predecessor’s development.               <p>In return for all your support, we’re excited to share some positive news for PlayStation players and finally discuss what to expect after January 28th.</p><h2 id="the-current-end-of-the-closed-beta" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">The current end of the Closed Beta</h2><p>As previously communicated, we will be ending the current phase of our testing on PlayStation on January 28th.</p><p>This is a significant milestone in our development, and we’re pleased to share that we’ve gained comprehensive and invaluable data over the past few months that has proven instrumental to Predecessor’s ongoing development and the future of the game.</p><p>In fact, the Closed Beta has been such a monumental success for us that we’re now in a position to share some exciting news for PlayStation players - phase 2 of the Closed Beta!</p><h2 id="whats-coming-next" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">What&#39;s coming next</h2><p>Phase 2 of the Closed Beta will go into effect from <b>January 29th,</b> and will run until we’re ready to take the next steps in our PlayStation development (more on that at a later date). The transition from phase 1 should be seamless, and aside from some potential server downtime on the day of transition as we update our servers, PlayStation players should expect to be able to continue enjoying Predecessor alongside PC users for the foreseeable future.</p><h3 id="why" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">Why?</h3><p>The reasoning behind this decision is threefold.</p><p>Firstly, this is the healthiest decision for our game. Predecessor is thriving thanks to <b>you</b>, its active, dedicated and engaged community. While we had planned last year to take Predecessor down in this window, we realize now that preventing a chunk of our players from playing in order to meet an expectation that we set last year no longer makes sense.</p><p>Secondly (<i>and most importantly for us</i>), we want to do this as thanks for everything you’ve done for us. PlayStation users have turned out in force to support Predecessor, and, if we can keep Closed Beta access going and have achieved our goals, then we want to do it. This game was born from the players, and our mission has always been to do right by our players, first and foremost.</p><p>Finally, we want everyone to be able to experience our next original Hero! <b>Codename: Emerald</b> is set to release February 27th, and we want PlayStation players to be a part of that experience! The team have worked incredibly hard on him, and we can’t wait to share more about this deadly Midlaner next month.</p><p>So why the second phase? Why not just extend the Closed Beta like we did back in December?</p><p>Well, it all comes down to something rather exciting. <b>We’re getting close to a Predecessor Open Beta</b>.</p><p>That’s right, Predecessor will be launching into Open Beta a little later this year! But before we’re ready to move into open beta, we need to test a few more things in the Closed Beta environment.</p><p>So let’s talk a little about…</p><h3 id="whats-changing" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">What’s changing?</h3><p>The biggest difference between phase 1 of the Closed Beta and phase 2 will be which Heroes are available to you.</p><p>Let’s start by revisiting what we said <a href="https://www.predecessorgame.com/news/notices/playstation-closed-beta-or-what-you-need-to-know#what-heroes-skins-and-features-will-i-have-access-to" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">way back in November</a>, when we first discussed how Heroes would be available in the original Closed Beta:</p>

The Store, Platinum currency and all cosmetics will be available to interact with also, just like on PC. </i></p></div>
        </div><p>When the Closed Beta launched, we opted to make nearly all Heroes released up until then available to PlayStation players straight out of the gate. The goal was to gather feedback and data on how they all behaved on PlayStation, including which heroes were the most popular, how each performed in the context of the PlayStation Closed Beta, and more.</p><p>Now that we’ve done that, however, our goal has shifted. We need to test and monitor the unlock process for PlayStation users as it will be in our later official release. After all, how players gain access to new Heroes is a crucial part of the game experience, so it’s important we take the time to go through it with the PlayStation player base ahead of the full platform launch.</p><p>As of phase 2 of the Closed Beta, we will be changing which Heroes Closed Beta accounts have default access to. Specifically, only 10 Heroes will be unlocked by default, with all other Heroes needing to be unlocked through play or purchased.</p><p><b>Those 10 Heroes are:</b></p><ul><li><p>Countess</p></li><li><p>Dekker</p></li><li><p>Gideon</p></li><li><p>Greystone</p></li><li><p>Grux</p></li><li><p>Khaimera</p></li><li><p>Kira</p></li><li><p>Murdock</p></li><li><p>Narbash</p></li><li><p>Steel</p></li></ul><p>In short, we’re aligning the PlayStation experience with the PC experience, finally creating parity between these platforms.</p><p>New players can expect to install Predecessor and have immediate access to the 10 Heroes listed above, with the option to purchase or unlock additional Heroes through gameplay.</p><p>For existing Closed Beta players, you will receive access to those same 10 Heroes, as well as any new Heroes you may have unlocked since the Closed Beta launched (<i>such as Wraith, Iggy &amp; Scorch and Kwang</i>). Any other Heroes will become locked, and you will be required to unlock them in order to play them.</p><p>Any skins you may have purchased or unlocked for Heroes regardless of their unlock status will remain credited to your account, and will be available to you once you obtain the associated Hero (or by default if it is one of the default Heroes). Likewise, if a Hero you’ve been playing becomes locked in Phase 2, your Affinity progress will be saved and can be picked up right where it has been left off, once that Hero is unlocked.</p><h3 id="will-i-need-a-new-game-key-to-play-this-new-phase-of-the-closed-beta" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">Will I need a new game key to play this new phase of the Closed Beta?</h3><p>Nope! If you already have Predecessor installed or redeemed to your PlayStation account you will be able to play with no interruptions.</p><p>Still need a key? We’re planning an Open Beta for Predecessor and we’re closing in on it fast.</p><p>While we don’t have a date to share today, you can expect more news in the coming months, including how we’ll be handling the transition out of Closed Beta for PlayStation users and what it’ll mean for Steam and Epic players.</p><p>Open Beta serves as a monumental milestone in Predecessor’s development process, and represents a huge step forwards towards a full release out of Early Access further down the line.</p><p>We’d like to once again thank you all for all of your ongoing feedback and support.
