What if I’m already part-way through unlocking a new Hero when this change is made?

Will we be rewarded Amber based on our player level at the end of Season 3?

<p>Greetings Champions!</p><p>Today’s blog post is all about our upcoming new soft currency, Amber! </p><p>This highly anticipated new addition comes off the back of months of internal testing, community feedback, and our never ending passion to make Predecessor the best it can be.</p><p>So with that in mind, let’s jump right into it!</p><h2 id="why-introduce-a-new-currency" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">Why introduce a new currency?</h2><p>This new currency, called Amber, is being introduced primarily as a means to purchase new Heroes as soon as they come out.</p><p>Under the previous system, player choices were limited due to the inefficiencies suffered when trying to unlock a Hero.</p><p>What do we mean by this? Well imagine you’re close to unlocking a Hero and all of a sudden we introduce a shiny new Hero that catches your eye instead. Switching who you’re unlocking sets you back, forcing you to either abandon your current progress to start working from scratch on a new character, or stick with the decision you made and delay unlocking the new Hero, essentially forcing your hand. All this is to say that it forced players to make tricky decisions.</p><p>There’s more reasons besides this, such as overflow XP being lost instead of being banked for your next unlock, and perhaps most importantly the pressure the system placed on new players who had to make important game decisions with very limited information and no way to delay the decision. Should a new player be prioritising Hero X as their first unlock? By the time they had enough XP to unlock that Hero their perspective of the game and their priorities as a player may very well have shifted.</p><h2 id="how-does-this-affect-hero-acquisition" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">How does this affect Hero Acquisition?</h2><p>Under the previous system, each Hero had a number of stages that needed to be unlocked using experience before they were fully unlocked and available to use. Newer Heroes tended to have more locks and therefore required more XP to unlock, whereas older Heroes had less and could be unlocked quicker. Alternatively you could always bypass this process by using our main currency, Platinum, to purchase a Hero outright.</p><p>With the introduction of Amber, we will be removing this system of unlock stages. Instead, every Hero will have a predetermined cost that you can pay using either Amber or Platinum, a price that’ll vary based on that Hero’s newness or difficulty.</p><p>Let’s take Argus for example who is arriving in the upcoming V0.15 game update. With no way to earn Amber ahead of his release it felt only right that he starts out with a slight discount, meaning he’ll only cost 8,600 Amber on launch. Future Heroes will start at the higher cost shown above.</p><p>Please note that these costs are subject to change!</p><h2 id="what-if-im-already-part-way-through-unlocking-a-new-hero-when-this-change-is-made" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">What if I’m already part-way through unlocking a new Hero when this change is made?</h2><p>If you’re already working on unlocking Heroes using the old system of XP and unlock stages, have no fear! We’ll be converting earned unlock XP into Amber which you can then put towards purchasing any Heroes going forwards.</p><p>Once V0.15 hits, we’ll count up how much Unlock XP you have towards Heroes you haven’t unlocked and convert it into Amber.</p><p>For every 50,000 XP you have towards unlocking Heroes you’ll get 8,600 Amber. Nice!</p><h2 id="how-do-you-acquire-amber" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">How do you acquire Amber?</h2><p>There are two main ways you can earn Amber.</p><h3 id="player-account-level-up" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">Player Account Level Up</h3><p>By increasing your player account level, you’ll also be increasing your stash of Amber!</p><p>Every time you level up you’ll receive a small amount of Amber as a reward. The amount you get will vary slightly based on what level you are.</p><h3 id="playing-pvp-matches" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">Playing PVP Matches</h3><p>By playing Predecessor you’ll passively earn yourself some Amber.</p><p>Every time you complete a match you’ll get a small amount of Amber based on how well it went for you. <p>Greetings Champions!</p><p>With Season 3 coming to a close, we wanted to catch you up a few key details about what you can expect from our upcoming V0.15 update and the end of the current season.</p><h2 id="v015" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">V0.15</h2><h6>The final update of EA Season 3</h6><h3 id="key-features" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">Key Features</h3><p>As we close in on the release of Predecessor&#39;s final update of EA Season 3, we wanted to share some details on what you can expect from us.</p><p>Firstly we&#39;re excited to confirm that V0.15 will launch with our reworked Hero Acquisition model. Following your feedback, a new soft currency is being introduced that will allow you to immediately purchase new Heroes such as Argus with no need to grind out specific XP for them. We&#39;ll delve into this topic more thoroughly in a blog post later in the week, so stay tuned for that.</p><p>There&#39;s more too - we&#39;ve got some improvements to Jungle AI, tweaks for controller users and the usual slew of new skins, items and Hero tweaks!</p><p>Lastly we&#39;re keen to get our new Hero, Argus (previously known by his codename of Emerald), into your hands. The community have been hard at work unlocking various teases for this new Mad Mage of the Midlane and we cannot wait for you to meet him on the battlefield!</p>

<p>Greeting Champions!</p><p>With 2024 thoroughly underway and as we look ahead to the milestones we hope to hit over the coming months, we have new opportunities for Predecessor players to join us in testing out new versions of the game ahead of our upcoming Open Beta!</p><p>You may have already heard of our Internal Testing team, which is a collection of dedicated Predecessor players who take part in early playtests to provide feedback on upcoming characters and features. We’re looking to grow this team, inviting more of our community to step behind the curtain and help us make Predecessor the very best that we know it can be.</p><p>Specifically, we’re looking for up to 1,000 PC players to join us over the coming weeks, playtesting Predecessor on a private development branch and answering some feedback questions on their experience. To be clear, this test will not contain early access to new characters like Emerald or other new features, but instead focuses on the game experience as a whole, as we make stability and optimisation improvements to the entire game.</p><p>If you are selected to take part, you will be invited to join our private Discord server where you will get one-on-one interactions with our development team as they conduct and monitor tests, alongside our excellent Internal Testing team moderators who will assist you at every step.</p><p>Participants will receive a Steam code granting them access to a unique development branch of the game. There will be organised tests each week, taking part on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays during February and March. These tests will take place across both EU and NA regions.</p><p>You will be expected to adhere to strict privacy rules such as not streaming or recording tests, and you may be invited to sign an NDA.</p><p>In return, we’re offering everyone who takes part the opportunity to earn two upcoming skins (a common and a rare) on their live Predecessor game accounts. These will be rewarded based on your participation - with a higher account level at the end of the overall testing period netting you more rewards.</p><p>This is a great opportunity to make a real difference in Predecessor’s development.               <p>In return for all your support, we’re excited to share some positive news for PlayStation players and finally discuss what to expect after January 28th.</p><h2 id="the-current-end-of-the-closed-beta" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">The current end of the Closed Beta</h2><p>As previously communicated, we will be ending the current phase of our testing on PlayStation on January 28th.</p><p>This is a significant milestone in our development, and we’re pleased to share that we’ve gained comprehensive and invaluable data over the past few months that has proven instrumental to Predecessor’s ongoing development and the future of the game.</p><p>In fact, the Closed Beta has been such a monumental success for us that we’re now in a position to share some exciting news for PlayStation players - phase 2 of the Closed Beta!</p><h2 id="whats-coming-next" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">What&#39;s coming next</h2><p>Phase 2 of the Closed Beta will go into effect from <b>January 29th,</b> and will run until we’re ready to take the next steps in our PlayStation development (more on that at a later date). The transition from phase 1 should be seamless, and aside from some potential server downtime on the day of transition as we update our servers, PlayStation players should expect to be able to continue enjoying Predecessor alongside PC users for the foreseeable future.</p><h3 id="why" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">Why?</h3><p>The reasoning behind this decision is threefold.</p><p>Firstly, this is the healthiest decision for our game. Predecessor is thriving thanks to <b>you</b>, its active, dedicated and engaged community. While we had planned last year to take Predecessor down in this window, we realize now that preventing a chunk of our players from playing in order to meet an expectation that we set last year no longer makes sense.</p><p>Secondly (<i>and most importantly for us</i>), we want to do this as thanks for everything you’ve done for us. PlayStation users have turned out in force to support Predecessor, and, if we can keep Closed Beta access going and have achieved our goals, then we want to do it. This game was born from the players, and our mission has always been to do right by our players, first and foremost.</p><p>Finally, we want everyone to be able to experience our next original Hero! <b>Codename: Emerald</b> is set to release February 27th, and we want PlayStation players to be a part of that experience! The team have worked incredibly hard on him, and we can’t wait to share more about this deadly Midlaner next month.</p><p>So why the second phase? Why not just extend the Closed Beta like we did back in December?</p><p>Well, it all comes down to something rather exciting. <b>We’re getting close to a Predecessor Open Beta</b>.</p><p>That’s right, Predecessor will be launching into Open Beta a little later this year! But before we’re ready to move into open beta, we need to test a few more things in the Closed Beta environment.</p><p>So let’s talk a little about…</p><h3 id="whats-changing" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">What’s changing?</h3><p>The biggest difference between phase 1 of the Closed Beta and phase 2 will be which Heroes are available to you.</p><p>Let’s start by revisiting what we said <a href="https://www.predecessorgame.com/news/notices/playstation-closed-beta-or-what-you-need-to-know#what-heroes-skins-and-features-will-i-have-access-to" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">way back in November</a>, when we first discussed how Heroes would be available in the original Closed Beta:</p>

        </div><p>When the Closed Beta launched, we opted to make nearly all Heroes released up until then available to PlayStation players straight out of the gate. The goal was to gather feedback and data on how they all behaved on PlayStation, including which heroes were the most popular, how each performed in the context of the PlayStation Closed Beta, and more.</p><p>Now that we’ve done that, however, our goal has shifted. We need to test and monitor the unlock process for PlayStation users as it will be in our later official release. After all, how players gain access to new Heroes is a crucial part of the game experience, so it’s important we take the time to go through it with the PlayStation player base ahead of the full platform launch.</p><p>As of phase 2 of the Closed Beta, we will be changing which Heroes Closed Beta accounts have default access to. Specifically, only 10 Heroes will be unlocked by default, with all other Heroes needing to be unlocked through play or purchased.</p><p><b>Those 10 Heroes are:</b></p><ul><li><p>Countess</p></li><li><p>Dekker</p></li><li><p>Gideon</p></li><li><p>Greystone</p></li><li><p>Grux</p></li><li><p>Khaimera</p></li><li><p>Kira</p></li><li><p>Murdock</p></li><li><p>Narbash</p></li><li><p>Steel</p></li></ul><p>In short, we’re aligning the PlayStation experience with the PC experience, finally creating parity between these platforms.</p><p>New players can expect to install Predecessor and have immediate access to the 10 Heroes listed above, with the option to purchase or unlock additional Heroes through gameplay.</p><p>For existing Closed Beta players, you will receive access to those same 10 Heroes, as well as any new Heroes you may have unlocked since the Closed Beta launched (<i>such as Wraith, Iggy &amp; Scorch and Kwang</i>). Any other Heroes will become locked, and you will be required to unlock them in order to play them.</p><p>Any skins you may have purchased or unlocked for Heroes regardless of their unlock status will remain credited to your account, and will be available to you once you obtain the associated Hero (or by default if it is one of the default Heroes). Likewise, if a Hero you’ve been playing becomes locked in Phase 2, your Affinity progress will be saved and can be picked up right where it has been left off, once that Hero is unlocked.</p><h3 id="will-i-need-a-new-game-key-to-play-this-new-phase-of-the-closed-beta" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">Will I need a new game key to play this new phase of the Closed Beta?</h3><p>Nope! If you already have Predecessor installed or redeemed to your PlayStation account you will be able to play with no interruptions.</p><p>Still need a key? It is also important to us that we are able to offer a period of exclusivity to select staff, friends, family members, content creators and a small number of journalists in accordance with our wider marketing strategy and as thanks for their ongoing support.</p><p>The Closed Beta will close on January 5th, 2024.</p><h2 id="who-is-eligible-for-the-closed-beta" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">Who is eligible for the Closed Beta?</h2><p>During this Closed Beta, only players in the EU and NA regions will be able to participate. We have keys for both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 platforms and you must specify both your region and your platform when you sign-up for the Closed Beta.</p><h2 id="how-many-people-can-take-part" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">How many people can take part?</h2><p>Our goal is to get everyone who signs up into the Closed Beta, but doing so soonest is the best way to get involved.</p><h2 id="how-do-i-take-part" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">How do I take part?</h2><p>In order to take part you must navigate to the <a href="/play/playstation-beta-access">PlayStation Closed Beta page</a> of our website and complete the sign-up form, specifying your region and system requirements and agreeing to our Privacy Policy. Once you have signed up, and once the Closed Beta has begun and is available to the public, we will be emailing game keys out in waves. After receiving your game key, simply follow <a href="https://www.playstation.com/en-gb/support/store/redeem-ps-store-voucher-code/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">these</a> instructions to redeem it to your PlayStation account.</p><h2 id="how-will-key-distribution-work" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">How will key distribution work?</h2><p>We&#39;ll be sending out keys for the Closed Beta in waves, starting on December 5th. This is so that we can safely increase the volume of players interacting with our systems while minimising potential problems such as server capacity. </p><p>While we expect to be able to welcome everyone into the Closed Beta who wants to participate, we understand that many of you will want to be among the first to receive keys. With this in mind, we will be utilising a queue system, assigning you a position based on how early you sign up after registration opens and the number of referrals you make. </p><h2 id="you-can-refer-friends-and-family-to-move-up-your-position-in-the-queue" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">You can refer friends and family to move up your position in the queue.</h2><p>Once you&#39;ve signed up, you&#39;ll be given a unique link. For every person who also signs up using your unique link, you will move up the queue. There is no limit to the amount of people who you can refer. </p><p>Be sure to share your unique link with as many people as you can to move up the queue and grab your Closed Beta key in an earlier wave!</p><h2 id="do-i-need-ps-in-order-to-play" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">Do I need PS+ in order to play?</h2><p>Nope!</p><h2 id="does-the-closed-beta-support-cross-play" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">Does the Closed Beta support cross-play?</h2><p>Yes! PlayStation players will be able to play with Steam and Epic players. You will be able to add friends, join lobbies and match with any other player, regardless of platform.</p><h2 id="will-my-progress-from-pc-be-carried-over" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">Will my progress from PC be carried over?</h2><p>Unfortunately not. You will not be able to carry over any progression from existing accounts.</p><h2 id="will-my-account-progression-be-saved-after-the-closed-beta" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">Will my account progression be saved after the Closed Beta?</h2><p>Currently it is our intention to preserve account data after the Closed Beta, allowing you to jump right back into the action when we launch on PlayStation in the future. When account linking is released, you will be forced to pick which account becomes the master account and is preserved, with any additional accounts (and their purchases and progression) being left behind. <p>[Update - October 23rd, 2023]</p><p>Hey Champions, </p><p>Last Friday we shared information about our upcoming Hero Affinity system, a feature that would recognise and reward your hard work and dedication with awesome new cosmetics such as titles, visual effects and of course, our highly anticipated Affinity prestige skins.</p><p>Our goal for this system was not to directly replicate any other mastery system, but to create our own comprehensive and rewarding experience that we felt fairly reflected the time players put into their favourite Heroes. Hero Affinity was never how we defined mastery, which is why we called it Affinity and not Mastery. The system was solely designed to reward players for the playtime they invested into a Hero, and it is our fault that this wasn’t clear.</p><p>After spending the weekend reviewing your feedback, talking with community members and content creators, we understand that we can improve this approach.</p><p>We heard your feedback that the prestige skins available through Hero Affinity should be available to everyone, for free. In recognition of this we have moved the prestige skins from the premium track to the free track of Hero Affinity, effective immediately with the launch of Hero Affinity. The new tracks can be seen below.</p>

              <p>One is completely free and is immediately available to progress while the other can be unlocked with Platinum to reap its rewards. The premium track also unlocks a permanent 15% Affinity XP boost for that Hero, further helping you reach those epic rewards!</p>

              <p>Any XP earned by playing matches with any given Hero will be added to that Hero’s Affinity XP pool, progressing both the free and premium tracks simultaneously. Affinity levels start out quick but require more investment the closer you are to reaching level 10.</p><p>You can purchase the premium Affinity track at any time and it’ll instantly unlock any rewards you may already be entitled to. All matches played with a Hero earns Affinity XP and progresses that Hero&#39;s Affinity level, even when you don&#39;t own a Hero but are playing it on free rotation!</p><h2 id="a-few-extra-notes" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">A few extra notes</h2><p>In the future we will be adding Affinity tokens as a way to access the premium side of the Affinity system for free, however this will not be arriving in Season 3</p><p>Currently you will need to equip Hero-specific customisation options (such as crowns and Affinity trails) in the Affinity menu. If you have an effect set in your Profile screen (such as an Ascended recall animation) it’ll be overridden by any effect you have equipped in the Affinity screen for that Hero. Emotes are automatically equipped. Non-Hero-specific customisation options (such as profile banners) will need to be equipped in the Profile menu. In the future we intend to expand and simplify how these effects and customisation options are managed and applied.</p><p>Hero Affinity will not backdate based on previous playtime with Heroes. Every Hero for all players will start at Affinity Lv. 0 as of V0.12.</p><p>This is our first iteration of Hero Affinity and represents a substantial amount of new content being added to Predecessor all at once. With that in mind (and given that we are still in Early Access) this system is subject to change and refinement, so please bear with us as we deal with any unexpected interactions or complications that might arise as a result of this new feature.</p><div class="pg-separator"></div><p>That&#39;s all for now! Hero Affinity

<p>In this blogpost, we are here to shed some light on how the Hero Acquisition system will work. We know it’s a hot topic in the community- and I hope this guide will clarify it all!</p><p>The Hero Acquisition system will take full effect as of Early Access V0.12. It has already been mostly implemented, so you might be familiar with some of the mechanisms.</p><p>The purpose behind this system is to give gamers something to work towards, as well as encourage players to try the Heroes they don’t usually play with for new and exciting combinations.</p><p><b>So how does it work?</b></p><p>Regardless of which bundle you’ve purchased or which Heroes you’ve unlocked, a selection of Heroes will always be available for everyone to use on free rotation. Eight of them, to be exact, so there’s always plenty to choose from regardless of the role you want to take on in the match!</p>

              <p>In the Heroes tab screen, you can pick any Hero you want to start unlocking - it doesn’t even need to be the one you’ll be playing with! Once you’ve picked a Hero, press “Activate Hero” and you will start gaining XP towards fully unlocking that Hero by simply playing the game. You can also change your decision anytime and switch to someone else.</p>

              <p>Heroes will have different amounts of unlock stages. Newer ones, like Serath, will always require 5 stages to unlock, but over time this might decrease. Older characters can have between 1 and 4 stages. <br/><br/></p><p>When you have gained enough XP by playing matches to complete all unlock stages of a Hero, you will permanently own them in your collection.</p>

              <p>Finally, and new for V0.12, is the ability to start unlocking new Heroes before they are even released! For example, our next new Hero will become playable on October 24th as part of the V0.12 update. One week before then (October 17th) however you&#39;ll be able to select them and begin working on unlocking them.</p><p>Earn enough XP and you&#39;ll have the new Hero unlocked and ready to play the instant they&#39;re released!</p>

<p>Greetings Champions!</p><p>As we speed towards the one year anniversary of Predecessor’s Early Access we’re tackling a topic that we know has been much discussed ever since we first launched late last year.</p><p>When we launched, we made the decision to include the Predecessor base game inside each of the three available DLC bundles, Rare, Epic and Legendary, with the bundles themselves being necessary to join our Early Access program. This meant that every bundle contained the base game, but the base game itself was never actually available on its own. At the time this solution allowed us to offer clear tiers of support and rewards, as well as the opportunity for you to flexibly upgrade your bundle if you wanted to mix things up (something we knew we had to have and will of course continue to support).</p><p>We understand however that the way this was implemented was never really perfect. For one it complicated the Steam refund process, a problem that we have since overcome but was a source of real frustration for many. Secondly (<i>and most significantly</i>), we believe that, with the way Steam works, many of you who wishlisted Predecessor on Steam before we launched into Early Access last year might have never received a notification that the game had become available, as the base version of the game was never technically purchasable. That’s potentially a bunch of Pred fans who might be missing out! A right muddle indeed.</p><p>To sort this all out we’re making the base game purchasable on its own, without the need for any fancy bundles (<i>unless you want them of course!</i>).               <p>Like in our other tiers you’ll also get an exclusive role reward on our Discord server for supporting us during Early Access (<i>to be delivered at a later date alongside Account linking</i>) and you’ll be able to unlock any additional Heroes and all future Heroes by simply playing the game.</p><p>For those of you who already own a Rare, Epic or Legendary bundle, nothing should change for you. Except of course that you also now have the new Constructor Steel skin! Check your inventory, it should be there right now!</p><p>We&#39;d also like to confirm that if you would rather purchase a one of the more premium bundles to support us further you still can. The base game will continue to be included in these bundles and if you do upgrade later the base game will be knocked off the price. Excellent!</p><p>We’re positive that this decision will help make the game more accessible than ever, while resolving some of the core problems we’ve faced in the Steam bundle system.
