It is also important to us that we are able to offer a period of exclusivity to select staff, friends, family members, content creators and a small number of journalists in accordance with our wider marketing strategy and as thanks for their ongoing support.</p><p>The Closed Beta will close on January 5th, 2024.</p><h2 id="who-is-eligible-for-the-closed-beta" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">Who is eligible for the Closed Beta?</h2><p>During this Closed Beta, only players in the EU and NA regions will be able to participate. We have keys for both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 platforms and you must specify both your region and your platform when you sign-up for the Closed Beta.</p><h2 id="how-many-people-can-take-part" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">How many people can take part?</h2><p>Our goal is to get everyone who signs up into the Closed Beta, but doing so soonest is the best way to get involved.</p><h2 id="how-do-i-take-part" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">How do I take part?</h2><p>In order to take part you must navigate to the <a href="/play/playstation-beta-access">PlayStation Closed Beta page</a> of our website and complete the sign-up form, specifying your region and system requirements and agreeing to our Privacy Policy. Once you have signed up, and once the Closed Beta has begun and is available to the public, we will be emailing game keys out in waves. After receiving your game key, simply follow <a href="https://www.playstation.com/en-gb/support/store/redeem-ps-store-voucher-code/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">these</a> instructions to redeem it to your PlayStation account.</p><h2 id="how-will-key-distribution-work" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">How will key distribution work?</h2><p>We&#39;ll be sending out keys for the Closed Beta in waves, starting on December 5th. This is so that we can safely increase the volume of players interacting with our systems while minimising potential problems such as server capacity. </p><p>While we expect to be able to welcome everyone into the Closed Beta who wants to participate, we understand that many of you will want to be among the first to receive keys. With this in mind, we will be utilising a queue system, assigning you a position based on how early you sign up after registration opens and the number of referrals you make. </p><h2 id="you-can-refer-friends-and-family-to-move-up-your-position-in-the-queue" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">You can refer friends and family to move up your position in the queue.</h2><p>Once you&#39;ve signed up, you&#39;ll be given a unique link. For every person who also signs up using your unique link, you will move up the queue. PlayStation players will be able to play with Steam and Epic players. You will be able to add friends, join lobbies and match with any other player, regardless of platform.</p><h2 id="will-my-progress-from-pc-be-carried-over" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">Will my progress from PC be carried over?</h2><p>Unfortunately not. When account linking is released, you will be forced to pick which account becomes the master account and is preserved, with any additional accounts (and their purchases and progression) being left behind. <p>[Update - October 23rd, 2023]</p><p>Hey Champions, </p><p>Last Friday we shared information about our upcoming Hero Affinity system, a feature that would recognise and reward your hard work and dedication with awesome new cosmetics such as titles, visual effects and of course, our highly anticipated Affinity prestige skins.</p><p>Our goal for this system was not to directly replicate any other mastery system, but to create our own comprehensive and rewarding experience that we felt fairly reflected the time players put into their favourite Heroes. Hero Affinity was never how we defined mastery, which is why we called it Affinity and not Mastery. The system was solely designed to reward players for the playtime they invested into a Hero, and it is our fault that this wasn’t clear.</p><p>After spending the weekend reviewing your feedback, talking with community members and content creators, we understand that we can improve this approach.</p><p>We heard your feedback that the prestige skins available through Hero Affinity should be available to everyone, for free. In recognition of this we have moved the prestige skins from the premium track to the free track of Hero Affinity, effective immediately with the launch of Hero Affinity. The new tracks can be seen below.</p>

              <p>Any XP earned by playing matches with any given Hero will be added to that Hero’s Affinity XP pool, progressing both the free and premium tracks simultaneously. Affinity levels start out quick but require more investment the closer you are to reaching level 10.</p><p>You can purchase the premium Affinity track at any time and it’ll instantly unlock any rewards you may already be entitled to. All matches played with a Hero earns Affinity XP and progresses that Hero&#39;s Affinity level, even when you don&#39;t own a Hero but are playing it on free rotation!</p><h2 id="a-few-extra-notes" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">A few extra notes</h2><p>In the future we will be adding Affinity tokens as a way to access the premium side of the Affinity system for free, however this will not be arriving in Season 3</p><p>Currently you will need to equip Hero-specific customisation options (such as crowns and Affinity trails) in the Affinity menu. If you have an effect set in your Profile screen (such as an Ascended recall animation) it’ll be overridden by any effect you have equipped in the Affinity screen for that Hero. Emotes are automatically equipped. Non-Hero-specific customisation options (such as profile banners) will need to be equipped in the Profile menu. In the future we intend to expand and simplify how these effects and customisation options are managed and applied.</p><p>Hero Affinity will not backdate based on previous playtime with Heroes. Every Hero for all players will start at Affinity Lv. 0 as of V0.12.</p><p>This is our first iteration of Hero Affinity and represents a substantial amount of new content being added to Predecessor all at once. With that in mind (and given that we are still in Early Access) this system is subject to change and refinement, so please bear with us as we deal with any unexpected interactions or complications that might arise as a result of this new feature.</p><div class="pg-separator"></div><p>That&#39;s all for now! It has already been mostly implemented, so you might be familiar with some of the mechanisms.</p><p>The purpose behind this system is to give gamers something to work towards, as well as encourage players to try the Heroes they don’t usually play with for new and exciting combinations.</p><p><b>So how does it work?</b></p><p>Regardless of which bundle you’ve purchased or which Heroes you’ve unlocked, a selection of Heroes will always be available for everyone to use on free rotation. Eight of them, to be exact, so there’s always plenty to choose from regardless of the role you want to take on in the match!</p>

              <p>In the Heroes tab screen, you can pick any Hero you want to start unlocking - it doesn’t even need to be the one you’ll be playing with! Once you’ve picked a Hero, press “Activate Hero” and you will start gaining XP towards fully unlocking that Hero by simply playing the game. You can also change your decision anytime and switch to someone else.</p>

              <p>Heroes will have different amounts of unlock stages. Newer ones, like Serath, will always require 5 stages to unlock, but over time this might decrease. Older characters can have between 1 and 4 stages. <br/><br/></p><p>When you have gained enough XP by playing matches to complete all unlock stages of a Hero, you will permanently own them in your collection.</p>

              <p>Finally, and new for V0.12, is the ability to start unlocking new Heroes before they are even released! For example, our next new Hero will become playable on October 24th as part of the V0.12 update. One week before then (October 17th) however you&#39;ll be able to select them and begin working on unlocking them.</p><p>Earn enough XP and you&#39;ll have the new Hero unlocked and ready to play the instant they&#39;re released!</p>

<p>Greetings Champions!</p><p>As we speed towards the one year anniversary of Predecessor’s Early Access we’re tackling a topic that we know has been much discussed ever since we first launched late last year.</p><p>When we launched, we made the decision to include the Predecessor base game inside each of the three available DLC bundles, Rare, Epic and Legendary, with the bundles themselves being necessary to join our Early Access program. This meant that every bundle contained the base game, but the base game itself was never actually available on its own. At the time this solution allowed us to offer clear tiers of support and rewards, as well as the opportunity for you to flexibly upgrade your bundle if you wanted to mix things up (something we knew we had to have and will of course continue to support).</p><p>We understand however that the way this was implemented was never really perfect. For one it complicated the Steam refund process, a problem that we have since overcome but was a source of real frustration for many. Secondly (<i>and most significantly</i>), we believe that, with the way Steam works, many of you who wishlisted Predecessor on Steam before we launched into Early Access last year might have never received a notification that the game had become available, as the base version of the game was never technically purchasable. That’s potentially a bunch of Pred fans who might be missing out! A right muddle indeed.</p><p>To sort this all out we’re making the base game purchasable on its own, without the need for any fancy bundles (<i>unless you want them of course!</i>).               <p>Like in our other tiers you’ll also get an exclusive role reward on our Discord server for supporting us during Early Access (<i>to be delivered at a later date alongside Account linking</i>) and you’ll be able to unlock any additional Heroes and all future Heroes by simply playing the game.</p><p>For those of you who already own a Rare, Epic or Legendary bundle, nothing should change for you. Except of course that you also now have the new Constructor Steel skin! Check your inventory, it should be there right now!</p><p>We&#39;d also like to confirm that if you would rather purchase a one of the more premium bundles to support us further you still can. The base game will continue to be included in these bundles and if you do upgrade later the base game will be knocked off the price. Excellent!</p><p>We’re positive that this decision will help make the game more accessible than ever, while resolving some of the core problems we’ve faced in the Steam bundle system. Predecessor's Coming To PlayStation!

<p>Greetings Champions, it&#39;s alex, Lead Game Designer, and today I have an update for you regarding the recently launched <i>Competitive Nights</i> feature and our plans for this content going forwards.<br/><br/>For the time being we are disabling the Competitive Nights Event. We intend for this to be a temporary change.<br/><br/>As you know, our goals for Competitive Nights was to provide a weekly event for teams of 5 players to compete against each other on the Europe and NA East servers. It was designed to offer a competitive matchmaking experience where players could compete for a spot on the weekly leaderboard.<br/><br/>We have been closely monitoring player interaction with Competitive Nights, and we appreciate everyone who has taken part in the event so far. Thanks to your valuable feedback, we&#39;ve identified several areas where we can improve and optimize the feature.<br/><br/>Taking your insights on board, we will be making some changes before we reintroduce the event. Kira Joins The Hunt

<p>Over the past few months Howitzer’s kit has received multiple large changes, particularly to his <b>Slow Grenades</b>, and his Ultimate, <b>Make It Rain</b>.               <p>Let’s first hop into the most exciting ability in Howitzers kit, Make it Rain. This ability has gone through multiple iterations and our findings have shown that players were very positive towards the flight mechanic within this ability. However, in the most recent playtest, the mock-up of the missile-slinging fantasy this ultimate was attempting to deliver, was not intuitive. Due to this fact, it often became difficult to utilise Make It Rain to its full potential. So instead of requiring manual firing of missiles and interacting with all elements of the kit, we opted for an automatic firing method that will launch 12 homing missiles towards your crosshair across a very short duration. Overall this change provides Howitzer a more unique ultimate with less overly complex mechanics.</p><h2 id="primary-ability" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">Primary Ability</h2>

              <p>Next, we have <b>Land Mine</b>. This playmaking tool has received a new targeting method where Howitzer will freely lob the ability in an arc, instead of utilising our normal ground targeting. The feeling of this lob will be akin to Dekker’s Stasis Bomb, without the long range. This allows us to retain the Mine’s powerful range and utility, whilst raising the skill floor to reward our Howitzer aficionados.</p><h2 id="alternate-ability" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">Alternate Ability</h2>

              <p>For something a bit more spicy, we have a significant change to Howitzer’s <b>Slow Grenades</b>. Instead of shooting 3 grenades on a delayed timer, he will now lob a singular grenade that, upon landing, will disperse into a circular minefield of 16 individual slow grenades that arm instantly. Functionally, the new Slow Grenade acts as a similar zoning tool as the previous iteration but comes with the benefit of having a more consistent behaviour across all ranges. Alongside this, the mines are now more readable for other players to identify in the world and play around. Of course, this also means more explosions!</p><h2 id="passive" class="scroll-mt-52 lg:scroll-mt-24">Passive</h2>

              <p>Finally, we return to Howitzer’s passive, <b>Armed Salvo</b>. This ability also has not received significant changes with balance aside. We still feel it complements his kit greatly, improving his combos and his ability to lane whilst also making those Basic Attacks a bit more punchy.</p><p>Artillery Mages are notorious for their ability to strike enemies from a safe distance, providing reliable poke and utility, as well as potential burst capabilities. On the flip side, they are vulnerable in close quarters combat so they must be careful how they utilise their defensive abilities in order to maintain range. </p><p>These changes should better place Howitzer into this classification whilst also improving his feel and QOL. Whether it’s a well-placed land mine or a barrage of missiles, we’re excited to see what plays you can pull off in the games ahead.</p><p>- Declan “Bloodmordius” Ballinger</p>

Howitzer Gameplay Update

<p>You may recognize Cameron &quot;xSUND0WN&quot; as a former Marketing Specialist at Epic Games on the title Fortnite Battle Royale, with prior experience as a competitive Design Analyst on Paragon. Cameron is an individual with a big heart for Esports and gaming who joined Predecessor as our new Senior Gameplay Designer.</p><h3><u><b>Tell us about your experience in the game industry/gaming.</b></u></h3><p><i>I started doing competitive gaming around the age of 12 or 13 back on 1st and 3rd person shooter games and went to my first major tournaments when I was 14 and from there I was completely hooked. Spent my entire teenage and early college years playing and competing across FPS, TPS, RTS, and then MOBAs before swapping over to working for a few gaming orgs while finishing out college.</i></p><p><i>After college, I ended up with a job at Epic Games where I’d been for just under the past 7 years. I started out working in QA and then went on to work for a bunch of different disciplines from design, to systems, to competitive, to marketing/creators, to production and on the broadcast side of things. I felt I really got to be involved in so many different projects and gain a ton of valuable experience along the way.</i></p><h3><u><b>What will you be doing for Predecessor?</b></u></h3><p><i>I’ll be working as a Senior Gameplay Designer on the design team. I am in particular very personally interested in helping bring the heroes of the game to life, while providing a baseline floor for accessibility, but also making sure they allow for competitive and skill-expressing play. In addition to this, as someone whose gaming roots lie in controller/console play, I want to stay on top of making Predecessor play and feel very smooth regardless of what system or input you use.</i></p><p><i>Those two things, along with doing my best to relay my experience to the incredibly talented designers already on the team that have done such a great job bringing Predecessor to life already.</i></p><h3><u><b>What are you most excited about in your new role at Omeda?</b></u></h3><p><i>Am I allowed to say everything?? Seriously from the team, to the game, to the community, and everything in between. I’ve always loved competitive team games that offer a lot of depth not only in terms of skill, but also in teamwork, smarts, and coordinated efforts. I’m excited to be able to make something awesome that every part of the community can enjoy and working with everyone to iterate on that product once it’s live. Trust me I’ll be out there playing just as much as all of you!</i></p><h3><u><b>Who is your favorite role/character in Predecessor?</b></u></h3><p><i>My role preference goes jungle, then offlane as my strongest, and then equally enjoying both support and mid-lane. I will carry if I have to, but I tend to just want to farm until I’m at 2 or 3 items and that’s less fun for me personally than throwing myself into the fray repeatedly as a jungle/offlaner.</i></p><h3><u><b>With your background in Esport, could you see yourself casting Predecessor? </b></u></h3><p><i>Don’t threaten me with a good time! I’ve always enjoyed getting the opportunity to cast and talk about any game, but Predecessor would be a blast. However, for that to be possible we have to put all the systems in place for people to be able to compete at a higher level and ensure the game has a healthy enough scene to support it. So while casting would be cool, my primary focus is going to be on making sure the game is in a good place, there is a wide enough variety of heroes for competitive matches to be exciting and variable, and that there is a foundation in place that let’s people express their skill. Plus, I don’t doubt there are some amazing casters out in the community waiting for their shot.</i></p><h3><u><b>It’s been only a few days but what&#39;s your first impression of the team?</b></u></h3><p><i>They’re awesome. It’s exciting to have an opportunity to make a game with a team that was derived from a very dedicated and passionate player base beforehand. So far everyone has been incredibly welcoming and fun to work with. Really hopeful with all of this talent and desire to succeed that we can make an awesome game that keeps players engaged.</i></p><h3><u><b>You worked on Paragon previously, is there anything specific that got into the game that the community might remember?</b></u></h3><p><i>Let’s see… I named Narbash thunk, did a lot of work on both iterations of Iggy n Scorch when it comes to a design iteration perspective, and most visible was probably being the hero designer on the Murdock rework when he came out. Adding in the lights, fixing some bugs with his Hot Pursuit, hooking up all the new effects, and making his laser feel a bit more responsive. He was a lot of fun to work on!</i></p><h3><u><b>If you could add one thing to Predecessor what would it be?</b></u></h3><p><i>Do you think I’m going to stop at adding just one thing? Come on Nibori you know me better than that! I think the obvious answer here would be more heroes right? Definitely want to ensure we are able to keep content rolling out to everyone so all the old favorites are back, but also I really can’t wait to sink my teeth into some original hero design.</i></p><p><i>I can’t wait for everyone to get their hands on EA!</i></p>
