2025 - Predecessor’s Most Incredible Year Yet
2025 has been a massive year for Predecessor! We’ve shipped 16 patches, with a staggering amount of content and features, including: 8 new heroes, 3 new modes, so many new gameplay systems, voice chat, technical improvements and some absolutely insane skins and cosmetics.
None of this would be possible without you, it’s been amazing to see how the community has helped shape every step of the journey so far. Thank you all so much for the support, feedback and passion you’ve shown for Predecessor throughout this year.
A Look Back
Redefining Strategic Depth & Core Mechanics
Tower Fortifications (1.3):
Yes, that was this year! Destructible Tower Plates enhanced the laning phase by creating greater reward potential when pushing for tower damage over roaming.
Hero Kit Reworks (1.4):
One of the many massive updates this year! Every single Hero was reworked in 1.4, from big sweeping changes to abilities, to smaller quality of life adjustments. All in an effort to increase skill expression and give our Heroes deeper, more distinctive kits.
The Augment System (1.6):
This one was a bit of a landmark feature wasn’t it? The game fundamentally changed with Augments, not only enabling more customisation for your Heroes, but also adding an extra layer of strategic depth. We still remember your reactions to 1.6, it was pretty clear they landed well and it was amazing to see how you experimented with them!
Item Update & Loadout Builder (1.10):
One of the most highly requested features dropped in 1.10, the ever-popular Loadout Builder. We wanted to go a step further with this one by adding the social features like sharing and voting for builds, and it has not disappointed! Plus we can’t forget about the 38 new items in this update to seriously shake up the meta.
Major Game Rebalance (1.9) – Driven by Community Feedback:
Maybe one of the most important changes, the “big rebalance of 1.9”. Based on your feedback, we made a bunch of balance changes to Ranked and Standard to slow the pace, and put an emphasis back on strategy and skilled play. Predecessor now feels better than ever!
Dynamic Content, New Modes, and Map Evolution
World Shift (1.8, 1.10):
Two World Shift events have been added this year, Cataclysm and Frostfall! Both of which have dramatically altered the map, offering different strategic landscapes and rewarding players who can adapt quickly to the new route and objectives.
Labs (1.6):
LABS became the proving ground for future game mode concepts, enabling players to try out new modes and give feedback to direct the game’s evolution. So far this year we launched:
- Nitro (1.6): An accelerated mode designed to deliver the signature depth of a full MOBA match in a much shorter timeframe - great for people with little time!
- Legacy (1.7): Bringing back the OG Paragon experience for a limited time, a celebration of how it all began for so many of us. Legacy is preserved in Custom Games for anyone wanting to take a trip down memory lane.
- ARAM (1.9): One of the most requested modes so far! ARAM brings the chaos in a single lane map where all your Hero picks are random. Perfect for those who just wanna have fun!
Competitive, Social, and Quality-of-Life
Ranked Improvements (1.6, 1.7, 1.8 and 1.10):
Season 1 kicked off this year with a whole host of improvements (and more on the way), including making the mode available 24/7 after extensive testing!
Discord Integration (1.4):
Voice Chat was added all the way back in 1.4 and it’s been huge for team coordination and social play. Fun fact - we were one of the first studios to partner with Discord to do this!
Role, Hero and draft order swaps (1.3):
Another win for strategy! Role, Hero and Draft order swaps added another layer of depth before the match even starts, enablings teams to optimise their comps.
Custom Game Improvements (1.7):
We added new Custom Match options to support different group sizes and map/mode selection, and we;ve already seen some epic 1v1s happening!
DLSS (v1.8) and FSR (1.10) Support:
DLSS and FSR are major upscaling technologies that significantly improved performance (higher FPS) for players across NVIDIA and AMD hardware, making the game more accessible and visually smoother than ever before.
Account Linking (1.3):
We added account linking so players could sync their progression, cosmetics and purchases across all platforms - perfect for those of you who play on PC and console!
Progression & Rewards:
Loot Cores made their debut in 1.4, and we made some pretty big improvements to Battlepasses with the community feedback from our first one in last year’s Winterfest event - bigger, better rewards and lots more of them! We also added Vault Passes in 1.9 so you could always work on battlepasses from previous seasons, a huge community win!
Refer a Friend was added too in 1.6 to give players a way to help the game grow by inviting their friends and earning rewards for playing together.
Heroes:
As we’ll touch on a bit later, our goal is to ship the most iconic, memorable Heroes in any MOBA, and whilst this is very much a long-term ambition, we’ve taken some major strides forward already.
When planning the Hero Roadmap for this year we had a few things we wanted to achieve:
- Deliver the last two Paragon Heroes, and move on to our own originals
- Address a lack of depth
- Address that some of our Heroes are a bit too similar
- Address clear gaps in our roster
To that end, here’s who we shipped in 2025:
A pretty awesome list, with some incredible originals! We ended up with quite a lot of Junglers this year, we'll be pivoting away from that role for a little while as we move into 2026.
We also leaned on the fantasy side of things for the roster, and have some really exciting Heroes coming next year that move into more of a sci-fi feel!
What’s up Next?
Patch 1.10.x & Winterfest
We’ll drop our Winterfest content on the 16th of December, bringing back some timed exclusives, with a few new looks, including a tuneup for one of our characters that hasn’t had a skin for a while.
Update 1.11
We've got 1.11 coming in January where we’re focusing on two key areas: Game Health and paying homage to Overprime. We asked for your feedback on which areas of the game you'd like us to look at, keep an eye out for more details in January!
We’re aiming to launch 1.11 on January 13th to ensure we give our team the rest they deserve over the holidays. The future cadence of updates is planned to continue from there at 3/6 weeks.
Setting the Stage for the Future: Listening and Transparency
After patch 1.8, we had a big discussion here at Omeda. We realised that we had been so focused on shipping as many new features as we could, we had lost some of our focus on making changes based on player feedback, and making a game that you love is the main reason for us all working on the game in the first place. When we refocused on listening to what you were saying, it was clear that many felt we had started to drift away from what made the game special.
Wanting to address this properly, we came together as a studio and defined 3 main priorities for 2026 and beyond. We’re sharing these with you so that you have the context behind the decisions we make, but also so you can hold us to account if you feel like we are straying from these points at any stage in the future.
1) To be the most seriously satisfying MOBA
In order of priority - this one is without doubt the most important thing we can focus on. It really kicked off in 1.9 where we did a lot of work to rebalance the game to increase the emphasis on strategy again while rewarding skilled play. This was just the beginning. We’re committed to making sure that we make progress towards this goal with every patch we release. In the longer term this is an anchor for us - no matter what we do, it must make the game a better MOBA.
When you spend a lot of time somewhere, you notice the little things getting better, and over time those little things have a big impact. This change in approach has helped us prioritise QoL improvements and bug fixes in patch 1.11, where before it’s fair to say we would have been very focused on adding new things instead. There will still be new things in this update of course, but it’s not the primary focus.
2025 has been a year where we have moved fast which is great, but the truth is, we’ve created some tech debt for ourselves. By going back to address this, we are setting ourselves up to build even cooler stuff in 2026.
2) To ship the most iconic, memorable Heroes in a MOBA
We mentioned this already, but it’s a huge focus for us in 2026 and beyond. The way we’re thinking about this is that all Heroes need 3 core pieces to come together - their kit, their visuals and their story. When all those things align, that’s where the magic happens, with characters that transcend the game they are part of. We’ve hit this bar a few times this year, but that is now the minimum standard. We want to go beyond and really blow everyone away.
Linked to this are patch themes. Each major patch should feel like a special moment in time. So rather than things feeling thrown together in a slapdash way, we want everything to work together under one consistent theme. We’ve gotten better at this for patches like 1.9: Tempest of Shadows, and 1.10: Echoes of Immortals, but this is something we are going to get better and better at (the theme for 1.12 is sooo good!)
3) A MOBA that puts you in the heart of the action like no other
If the first two areas could apply to just about any MOBA, this one is where we think Predecessor is truly unique. You are thrown right into the heart of the fight, replacing the traditional, detached, overhead perspective. This active participation necessitates precise aiming, keen spacial awareness, and effective utilisation of the environment's verticality, resulting in a beautiful mix of strategy and action.
An example of this is World Shift. Whilst other MOBAs have similar features, it just hits different when you have meteors literally falling out of the sky in front of you and smashing you into the air, or ice paths forming that carry you up above the battlefield to give you another chance to get to your enemy in a way they weren’t expecting.
More than anything though, World Shift is giving us critical information when it comes to the design of our new map, which is starting to really take shape. Early playtesting is looking promising, and we are now aiming to launch it for wider testing in LABS next year.
Although next year isn’t too far away now, we figured we’d give you a little sneak peek of our progress on the new map so far. Everything you see in the screenshot below is very work in progress and may change as time goes on. In fact, this may be earliest version of a new feature we've ever shown to the public!
We will be sharing more about our map update soon, so keep an eye out in January for some progress updates!
That’s everything for now, Champions. Thank you all so much for an incredible year, we can’t wait to see what 2026 has got in store for Predecessor!
